Mehmet Ergul
Professor, San Francisco State University
Professor Ergul has 20+ years of experience in the hospitality and tourism sector. Professor Ergul has a wide of interests including but not limited to food tourism, healthy eating habits and their impact on the hospitality industry, new food products development, medical tourism, new destinations for tourism, cultural and film tourism, sustainable tourism, hospitality technology, and social entrepreneurship in the hospitality industry.
He is currently a faculty member at SF State University, College of Business Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management since 2006. He has also served on numerous committees at SF State and was a member of the Academic Senate.
Previously he has worked for Texas Tech University, Bilkent University and as a Guest Lecturer / Visiting Professor at numerous institutions globally.
His teaching portfolio includes Restaurant and Catering Management, Introduction to Hospitality Management, Food and Culture, Tourism Management, Services Management and International Tourism.
He has published numerous articles and presented his research in many international conferences. Professor Ergul is also the co-editor for the title “Sustainable Tourism Practices in the Mediterranean” released in July 2019 and co – author of Social Entrepreneurship in Hospitality: Principles and Strategies for Change.
Professor Ergul holds his Ph.D. in Hospitality Administration and MSc in Restaurant Hotel and Institutional Management from Texas Tech University, MBA from Baskent University, Ankara Turkey and BSc in Tourism and Hotel Management from Bilkent University.
He serves as an editorial board member for scholarly journals and as an ad-hoc reviewer. Between 2017 - 2022, as a part of his community work, Professor Ergul is voluntarily managed the Turkish National Synchronized Ice Skating Team “Team Vizyon” and attending international competitions with the team at the worlds level. Prior to working in academia, Professor Ergul was involved in several foodservice operations in Ankara, Turkey as a managing partner and consultant.
